Varsity ladies fall to Reagan

The Lady Lions hosted the Reagan Lady Raiders Tuesday night, Nov. 15, at the Lions Den for a disappointing loss.
The Lady Raiders came out hot from the floor in the opening quarter with 18 points scored by six different players. The Lady Lions scored 10 points from four different players.
Junior guard Adrian Carter scored four of her 17(career high) in the first

period. Senior post Danielle Beltran was two for two from the line and sisters Venoris Carter and Mariah Carter each added a field goal.
In the second quarter, the Lady Lions tighten up defensively and held the Lady Raiders to 11 points.
Andrea Carter made three steals while Ada Lampkin contributed one steal. At one point the Lady Lions were down 17 points before cutting the deficit to 12 points.
Starting the third quarter, Reagan led 29-17 and regained their shooting touch hitting for 17 points. The Lady Lions dug in and cut the lead to five points with baskets from junior post Noami Hayes and two baskets by Smith. Mariah Carter added two free throws and Andrea Carter hit a three-point shot. Zenaida Rubio grabbed three rebounds for the Lady Lions.
“I was really pleased with our determination to get back into the game,” said Head Coach David Johnston.
Reagan finished the quarter with a scoring burst and extended the lead to 18 points.
The fourth quarter began with a basket from Reagan and the Lady Lions trailed behind by 20 points. Mariah Carter scored six of her 12 points in the fourth quarter helping the Lady Lions erase a huge lead for the Lady Raiders.
“Once we were able to score we could then utilize our speed and get into our press,” Johnston said.
The Lady Raiders held off the Lady Lions for a 9-point victory.
“We got down by too many points too early…I”m very proud that we didn”t give up and we played until that final buzzer,” added Johnston.
