Vaulter earns “All-American” honor

Paul Turner, pole vaulter for Angelo State University, earned All-American honors at the Division II Track and Field Championships held at Abilene Christian University May 26-28.
Turner, jumping into strong head winds, cleared 16 feet 2.75 inches to finish in sixth place. The top eight finishers in each event receive the coveted title of All-American.

rner”s third trip to the National Championships. In 2004 at Pomona, California, he finished ninth in the nation.
Earlier this year, Turner received the “Holland Athletic Award” from Angelo State University recognizing him as the outstanding male track athlete of the year.
While competing for the Lockhart Lions from 1999-2002, Turner earned four varsity letters, three trips the Regionals, a Regional Champion in 2002, and a fourth place finish at the State Meet in 2002.
Turner is a junior journalism major at Angelo State University. He is the son of Lydia and David Turner, and the grandson of Rose Marie and Bill Turner, Carmen Gomez, all of Lockhart, and Louis Salazar, of San Marcos.
