Vernon Evans Webb, Sr., of Lytton Springs,Texas passed away Saturday, Nov. 1, 2014, at the age of 83. He is preceded in death by wife Betty Jo Heaton Webb, parents Thomas and Alma Webb; brother, Carroll Webb; grandson, Tommy Wheeler; and great-grandson, Evan Oltman.

Born at home in the country, his roots started and ended where he loved it best. He received Christ at 19 year

s old at the Lytton Springs Baptist Church and was baptized in the holy water of a neighboring stock pond.

He served in the US Army 1951-1953, being stationed in Germany, and there he learned to play his loved guitar. Music became a big part of his life joining his wife and friends to create their own band – even made a few records for their personal entertainment. He spent a lot of time entertaining his family with good music and song. Worked for the City of Austin Finance Department for 34 years until his retirement in January 1988.

Vernon served on many boards and committees thru his career. He gave tireless and faithful service to the North Austin Optimist Club, serving many positions on the board, and was inducted into the Greater Austin Sports Association Hall of Honor for outstanding contribution to the youth sports in Austin. After his retirement, Vernon enjoyed his lifelong passion in ranching.

Vernon is survived by fiancée Marjorie Dillard; daughter, Carol Sue “Susie” Wheeler and husband, Rodney; daughter, Terrie Ann Crittenden and husband, Frank; son Vernon Evans, Jr. and fiancée, Linda Harrison; daughter, Donna Denise DeGolier and husband, Paul; grandchildren: Rebecca (Derrick), Jason (Jenna), Ashley Jo (Gary), and Laurel; and great-grandchildren: Lelia, Kyler, Reba, Payten Bailey and DyLinn.

Visitation will be Thursday, Nov. 6, 2014, from 6-8 p.m. at McCurdy Funeral Home, 105 E. Pecan, Lockhart, Texas. Funeral services will be on Friday, Nov. 7, 2014, at 2:30 p.m., also at McCurdy Funeral Home, led by Pastor Gary Rodgers from First Lockhart Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Lytton Springs Cemetery.

The family will have a reception with food and fellowship after interment at Vernon”s home 1400 Lytton Lane, Dale, Texas 78616 in Lytton Springs. Please join us.

In lieu of flowers Vernon requested donations are made in his honor to the North Austin Optimist Club, P.O. Box 9171, Austin, Texas, 78766.
