The City of Lockhart, in connection with the Central Texas Tolbert Chili Group and the Lockhart Chamber of Commerce, is hosting a full day of fun at Lockhart City Park on Saturday, March 19.
Events begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday, as the annual KidFish takes place in the freshly-stocked Lockhart City P
ond. Kids of all ages are welcome to participate in KidFish – and fishing gear will be made available to those who do not have their own.
Meanwhile, fly a kite with the Mayor, enjoy a round of horseshoes or washer-pitchin’, explore Lockhart’s disc golf course, or just enjoy the shade under City Park’s expansive oak trees as the family-friendly “Welcome Spring Day” invites the community out of their homes to shake off the winter weather in honor of the first day of spring.
Also in City Park this weekend, the Central Texas Tolbert Chili Group and the Lockhart Chamber of Commerce are hosting the annual Tolbert – Texas State Chili Championship, a flagship event in Texas cookoff culture.
Cooks from across the country come to Lockhart every spring for the Texas State Chili Championship, a qualifying event for the “granddaddy of all cook-offs,” in Terlingua, Texas.
While many cooks allow visitors to sample their goods, judges are always needed in the Main Pavilion. Turn-ins start at 11 a.m. with margaritas, and continue throughout the afternoon.
Additionally, a live auction will be held after awards, in an effort to raise money for the Central Texas Tolbert Chili Group’s many charitable efforts.
All events in Lockhart City Park this weekend are free to the public. For more information, contact Lockhart City Hall at (512) 398-3461, or the Lockhart Chamber of Commerce at (512) 398-2818.
