Thelma Seeliger

Thelma Shands Seeliger, of Lockhart, died Feb. 1, 2008, at the Golden Age Home in Lockhart. She was born Oct. 16, 1909 in Monett, Mo. Her parents, Olin and Dovie Long Shands, moved to Vivian, La., where she grew up and attended school graduating from Vivian High School. She continued her education by attending Business College in Shreveport, La. Afterwards, she worked for a

Certified Public Accountant until she moved to Texas.
In Texas she met Alton Seeliger of Lockhart, and they were married in Smithville, Texas, on July 16, 1932. They made their home in Lockhart, and she lived in Lockhart until her recent death. Her husband of 56 years preceded her in death.
Thelma was a member of the First Lockhart Baptist Church. She was also a member of Ruh Neb Temple #64, Daughters of Nile of Austin, Texas and a member of the Order Sons of Hermann.
She and her husband owned and operated a place of business named Seeliger”s Ladies Ready to Wear and Mens Furnishings, located on the West side of the City Square in Lockhart, for 28 years. She enjoyed serving the public and was most attentive to all their individual needs.
After retiring, she enjoyed visiting with family and friends, playing bridge, and traveling.
She is survived by a son, Ronald Seeliger, of Austin, and numerous other relatives and friends.
