Several new coaches join Lions, Lady Lions

With a new sports season underway and most of the high school and junior high school teams starting to practice in preparation for their scrimmages and regular season games, LISD coaches have been busy getting to know the new coaches and helping them get acquainted with Lion Country.

nclude both boys’ and girls’ athletic programs including Lion Football, Basketball, Soccer, Golf and Track and Lady Lion Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer, Softball, Track and Cross Country.
New coaches and their assignments include the following:
Kendrick Broadus- JV/Varsity football assistant/track; Gilbert Sandoval- Freshman football coordinator/head coach/track; Jeff Richter- Freshman football assistant/boys basketball; Gregory Reinhart- Freshman football assistant/boys basketball; Jose Falcon- Freshman football assistant/track; Joshua Johnson- boys soccer head coach; Katina Flourney- girls track coordinator/girls basketball; Jamye Pauley-head volleyball coach; Melissa Fisher- girls basketball head coach, Katy Snell- JV softball/junior high girls basketball and volleyball; John Donley- junior high cross country and track; Shannon Reitz- junior high basketball and track; and Jeff Robenault- junior high golf.
A new trainer, Veronica Alejo-Waits will assist Head Trainer Jim De La Cruz on the sidelines.
Several reassignments were made to fill vacant positions from within. Most coaches remain in their original assignments. The following is a list of returning coaches and their assignments: Scott Hippensteel will continue as head coach of boys cross country and track, with Tim Bayliss heading up the girls side of the cross country and track program. Bayliss will also head the girls soccer program.
Troy Moses will continue as head football coach with Ernie Bustamante as defensive coordinator, Pat Bailey as offensive coordinator, Bryan Robinson as assistant football coach and assistant boys soccer coach and Raymond Talamantes heading the junior high football program.
Bailey will also be the new head baseball coach. Lisa Cone will continue as the head softball coach.
Richard McAdams will still head power lifting. Moses will be the track coordinator for the boys and Flourney will be track coordinator or the girls.
Kat Lemons will continue as head tennis coach and Jeff Gant will remain head golf coach.
Junior high coordinators will be Raymond Talamantes for the boys and Tamar Collins for the girls.
Practice for football and volleyball is well underway.
Varsity and JV boys practice football from 7-9 a.m. and 11 a.m. -1 p.m. Freshman practice from 8-11 a.m. at the Freshman Campus.
Varsity and JV girls practice volleyball from 8-10 a.m. and 2-4 p.m. Freshman practice between the Varsity and JV teams’ schedules.
