Dorothy C. Matchett Brown
Dorothy C. Matchett Brown, 81, of Grapeland, Texas, passed away on Sept. 13, 2008, at Woodland Heights Hospital in Lufkin. She was born on Aug. 4, 1927, in Kennard, Texas, to Clarence Collins and Violet Arnold Matchett. She was the oldest of seven children, with three brothers, Thomas E. Matchett, Clarence H. Matchett, of Houston, and Glenn C. Matchett, of Angleton; and thre
e sisters, Beatrice Reed Hill, of Houston, Lou E. Murray, of Lovelady, Sammie Campbell, of Lufkin.
Mrs. Brown was a lifelong Texan and a true Christian lady. She was admired and loved by the many that knew her. God blessed her with many gifts: understanding, character, friendliness, compassion, a willingness to listen, and a long and full life. She will be greatly missed by her family, church members and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her oldest brother Thomas Edward Matchett.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, William A. (Art) Brown; two children: Arthur Duane Brown and wife, Susan Gaines Brown, of Mountain City, Texas, and Barry Dean Brown and wife, Dorothy Pfullman Brown, of Pflugerville; four grandchildren: Michael Brown, Jayson Brown, Angela Moser and April Brown; and four great grandchildren.
Condolence calls will be received from 9 – 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 19, 2008, at the Bailey and Foster Funeral Home Chapel, 323 W. Chestnut, Grapeland, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 1 p .m. on Friday, Sept 19, 2008, in the Grapeland Church of Christ with Gary Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in the Brown Family Cemetery in Grapeland.
