The Varsity Lions hosted the Canyon Lake Hawks at Lion Stadium on Friday, Jan. 23 and defeated them 6-0 in one of the last tune-up games before district play.
The Lions played well from beginning to end and, according to Head Men’s Soccer Coach Joshua Johnson, “put on an impressive offensive and defensive display.”
The Lions stayed ahead of the Hawks by moving the ball as much as they could while passing it forward during the game. No Lion took a break for long, ensuring a constant flow of fresh subs keeping the pressure on the Hawks.
The Hawks played hard throughout both halves of the game, despite their zero score. They fought, but could not snatch the ball away from the Lions for long enough to score.
“The Lions scored early and often en route to the 6-0 victory over the Hawks,” Johnson said. “To their credit, the Hawks never quit playing hard.”
Scoring for the Lions came from Bobby Williams, Michael Williams, Khalil Karl, Garspar Martinez and Mathew Carniero.
B. Williams scored two goals and M. Williams, Karl, Martinez and Carniero each scored one goal for the Lions.
The Lions traveled to Smithville to face the Tigers on Tuesday, Jan. 27 and will host the Giddings Buffaloes at Lion Stadium on Friday, Jan. 30. Check next week’s Post-Register for scores and highlights.
See you at the game.
