Lady Lion soccer faced tough competition
The Lady Lion Varsity Soccer Team traveled to Killeen this past weekend to play in the Centex Tournament. The Lady Lions were one of 16 4A & 5A teams playing in the tournament. more Nicole Herrera,” head coach Tina Bazur said. The second game on Friday matched the Lady Lions against Harker Heights. “We played well, but fell 3-0 despite a solid team effort,” Bazur said. Saturday breathed new life into the Lady Lions. The first game paired Lockhart against Killeen High. The Lady Lions jumped out to an early lead on a goal by junior Krystal Laws assisted by junior Lindsey Wilson. A strong game by goalie Isabella Saldana, defender Katie Hornburger, and defender Erica West kept the Killeen offense in check for a final score of 1-0. In the second game, the Lady Lions were pitted against Seguin. Lockhart scored in the 21st minute on a goal by senior Laura Wilson assisted by sophomore Ashley Simon. The Lady Lions struck again on a goal by Simon assisted by freshman Kara Casteel in the 36th minute. In the second half, the Lady Lions continued their attack. Laws scored on an assist by Simon in the 46th minute. The Lady Lions continued attacking with another goal two minutes later by senior Cecilia Perez assisted by Simon. The Lady Lions received strong defensive performances by goalie Katherine Coster, Casey Stalbaum, and Jenna Allen. Sophomore sweeper Herrera was named to the All-Tournament Team. The Lady Lions will be playing in the Wimberley Tournament on Friday, Jan. 21, and Saturday, Jan. 22.
