Sophie Castillo Moreno
Sophie Castillo Moreno passed away in Lockhart, TX on Friday, March 1, 2024 at the age of 88 with her family at her side.
She was born on December 3, 1935 in Goforth, TX, to the late Valdo Castillo Sr. and Cruz Deleon Castillo.
Sophie was extremely proud of her German heritage and life growing up on a farm. She was also extremely proud of her children and grandchildren. She was an accomplished seamstress, floral decorator, and great baker; she had a great knack for fashion and style. She created many beautiful bridesmaid dresses, hats, and bouquets for her friends’ weddings and special occasions.
She was also a manager at area Dairy Queen and Hardies Restaurants. After retiring from the world of fast food, she embarked on another endeavor and became a well-respected insurance agent for both American National Insurance Company and SPJST. As an agent, she was able to pass on her business sense to young inspiring agents and was a mentor to many. She received many awards and accolades for her work.
Sophie leaves behind to mourn her a loving daughter, Barbara Moreno Bernal and her husband Robert Bernal, her grandson Robert John Bernal of Lockhart; a loving son, Johnny Moreno and his wife Linda Moreno of Seguin; and her great-grandson J.J Thomas.
She is also survived by her sisters Celia Arredondo, Maria Moreno, Josephine Ramirez and her brother Valdo Castillo Jr. as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Ernestina Arredondo, her brother Angel Castillo, her grandson Jonathan Thomas, and the father of her children, Juan B. Moreno.
Services will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 205 W. Pecan St. in Lockhart. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 9:30 am followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at St. Michaels Cemetery in Uhland, Tx. Guestbook available at www.mccurdyfuneralhome.com
Serving as Pallbearers will be George Arredondo, Tony Arredondo, Mario Moreno, Angel Ramirez, Brian Ewald and Edwin Villeda. Honorary Pallbearers will be Joe Castillo and Carlos Eureste.
Special thanks to the staff at Parkview Nursing Home, especially Rachel, Nurse DeLeon and Leonard Huff for always having the patient’s best interest at heart. We are also eternally grateful for the dedicated nurses (Chantel and Mandy) at Elara Hospice for their kindness and compassion in caring for our mom during her final weeks.
