James Sewell

It is with great sorrow the family of James Edwin Sewell announces his passing on Feb. 15, 2010.

James was born Sept. 12, 1921, in Brundage, Texas, to Nancy Baker and Everett Sewell. He met Janelle Elliott in January 1939 and married her on Oct. 15, 1942.

He is survived by his wife, Janelle; daughter, Lillie Wendel, and husband, Elgin; son, Richard Sewell, a

nd wife, Barbara. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Robert Wendel, Don Wendel and wife, Alexa, Beverly Foust and husband, Scott, and Gina Glass and husband, Shawn; and 11 great-grandchildren: Alicia, Chase, Hailey, Michaela, Dylan, Ashley, Brittany, William, Amber, Zachary and Tyler.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Floyd, JC and Everett.

James was a multi-talented individual earning his living by building bridges and homes. He made gunstocks that have found their way around the world. He joined the National Guard in Lockhart, Texas, on Nov. 25, 1940, and was the first person at Camp Bullis to be discharged under the point system May 12, 1945. He was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star, EAME Campaign Ribbon with five Bronze Battle Stars, Purple Heart with two clusters, American Service Defense Metal, Good Conduct Metal, Texas Federal Service Metal. The 636th Tank Destroyer received many unit citations; he was a member of the 36th Division National Chapter and a life charter member of the San Antonio Chapter and 141st Infantry Division”s 36th Chapter.

James was also a member of the Baptist Church.

Graveside Services were scheduled at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010, at Bunton Cemetery with Bud Cheatham officiating.

In honor of James, pallbearers will include: Robert Wendel, Don Wendel, Shawn Glass, Scott Foust, Jimmy Sewell and Glen Brietzke.
