Caldwell County is poised to make life better for local veterans, surviving spouses and  their families after recently being awarded a total of $250,000 via two competitive grants from the Texas Veterans Commission’s Fund for Veterans’ Assistance (FVA).

The Housing for Texas Heroes Grant will help veterans and their spouses stay in their homes for years to come by funding essential home repairs, accessibility modifications, and vital improvements that promote safe and independent living.

The Veterans Financial Assistance Grant will support eligible veterans and their families with needs such as past due rent, mortgage, utilities, groceries, dental repairs, vehicle repairs and transportation assistance.

The grants are active and the Veteran Services Office is accepting applications for funding and relief.

“The County is deeply honored to receive these grants, which will allow us to better serve the men and women who have served our nation,” said Sara Love, Caldwell County Veterans Service Officer. “These funds will have a direct impact on the well-being of veterans right here in our community.”

Love is encouraging families in need to apply right away. Future awards to Caldwell County could depend on participation during this around.

“Please, if you have any need to use any of these resources, reach out for the paperwork.  We want and need to use the grant so it can stay in the county for years to come,” Love said. “Average turn around on a completed packet can vary, and the Veteran Services Office is more than happy to walk you through the process.”

For more information on eligibility or to apply for assistance, contact the Caldwell County Veterans Service Office at 512-398-6492 or email Sara.Love@co.caldwell.tx.us.  Applications are also available without an appointment on the front desk outside of the office located at 1403 Blackjack Street Lockhart, TX 78644 in the Scott Annex Building, just across from Elections.

This program is supported by a grant from the Texas Veterans Commission Fund for Veterans’ Assistance. The Fund for Veterans’ Assistance provides grants to organizations  serving veterans and their families. For more information, visit www.tvc.texas.gov.
