L.J.H. volleyball defeat rivals

8th Grade “A” vs. Dahlstrom
The 8th grade “A” volleyball team took on Dahlstrom Monday night, Sept. 12, in a district contest.
The Lady Lions took control of a tight first game, and escaped with a 25-23 score. Brandy Stacks led the way during the first game with eight serves.
During the second game, the Lady Lions struggled, and fell to Dahlstrom 25-13.

During the decisive third game, the Lady Lions took control and won convincingly 15-9. Desiree Roland led the team in the third game serving nine consecutive serves that the Lady Mustangs could not handle.
Desiree received the game ball for outstanding play,that included 12 kills throughout the match.
Jamie Schulle played outstanding defense for the team, playing solid in the front row and digging up hits from the back row.
Jordyn Platt also played well for the team executing accurate sets and tipping several difficult balls over the net.
The Lady Lions will play at home on Monday, Sept. 26 to face the Wallace Rangers at 6:30 p.m.

8th Grade “B” vs. Dahlstrom
The Lady Lions 8th grade “B” volleyball team defeated their biggest rivals, Dahlstrom Middle School, on Monday, Sept. 12, in three games.
The Lions fought hard and won the first game, 25-20. Audrey Valdez and Kelsie Briscoe had five serves each to help the Lady Lions grab the win. Amanda Wright and Karish Selby had some awesome hits at the net to add to the victory.
In the second game the Lady Lions could not catch up once they fell behind and lost 18-25. Christina Knudsen had an outstanding serving performance for the Lady Lions.
In the third game, the girls would take control and stay in control of the game winning 15-12.
“Everyone stayed focused and got the job done,” Coach Homann said. “I”m very proud of them.”
The Lady Lions are now 2-1 in district play and 5-2 overall

8th Grade “B” Tournament
On Sept. 10, the Lady Lions 8th grade “B” volleyball team competed in the annual TexFest tournament in Wimberely, where they brought home the first place trophy.
The Lady Lions defeated Liberty Hill, 25-8 and 25-16. Audrey Valdez served 10 points for the Lions, while Kariah Selby scorched the net with five kills to help the Lions to victory.
The Lady Lions then skinned the snakes from San Marcos Miller, 25-14 and 25-23. Desirea Winn served 10 points, while Amanda Alvarez and Julia Robicheaux added five each. Cortney Ferris and Audrey Aguilar had an excellent game at the net contributing three kills each.
The Lady Lions moved on to the championship game against the Bobcats from Barton Junior High. The girls fought hard and played solid volleyball to seize the gold medal and trophy, with scores of 25-16 and 25-14.
Jocelyn Coleman and Monica Parra executed outstanding serving skills for the Lady Lions. Kelsey Briscoe and Erin O”Connor placed beautiful sets on the net for Christina Knudsen and Amanda Wright who had three kills each.
Audrey Valdez received the TexFest Tournament MVP for consistent serves, passes, and attacks. Valdez was presented a medal for her hard work.
“The girls had an awesome tournament,” Coach Homann said. “They worked together as a team and never gave up. I am very proud of them!”

8th Grade “C” Tournament
The Lady Lions” 8th grade “C” volleyball team participated in the Wimberley TexFest tournament on Saturday, Sept. 10.
They defeated the Luling Eagles 25-21, and 25-10 in their first game. They played Wallace for the Championship, narrowly escaping with a 25-21, 23-25, and 15-8 victory to take home the first place medals.
A team MVP medal was given to Sacora Manning for an outstanding performance. Other standouts included Madison Myers for consistent serving, and Marissa Lopez for accurate serving and overall hustle.
“The girls did a fantastic job against some tough competition,” Coach Sibley said.
The team consists of Michelle Forbing, Danielle Zarate, Monique Smith, Madison Myers, Marissa Lopez, Sacora Manning, and Kaela Amirkabirian.
