Lady Lions fall short to Hendrickson

The Lady Lions hosted the Hendrickson Lady Hawks on Friday night, Jan. 13, at the Lions Den for their final game of the first round of district.
The Lady Lions came out with a balanced and well-executed quarter of offense.

ntributed three of five free throws as the Lady Lions led 13-7 to end the first quarter.
“We did a great job of executing and finishing our shots,” said Johnston.
The Lady Lions continued to get a balanced offensive attack as four different Lady Lions got into the scorebooks in the quarter.
Adrian Carter hit a basket while senior post Zenaida Rubio hit two baskets. Mariah Carter and Venoris Carter also added to the scoring.
“I thought we did an excellent job stopping the Lady Hawks. They transition very well and go to the glass as good as anyone,” added Johnston.
Lockhart led, 24-16, closing the first half.
After getting up by as many as 12 point in the first half, the Lady Lions suddenly lost their shooting touch.
The Lady Hawks were inspired after their coach received a technical foul. The visitors scored seven unanswered points in just over a minute and cut the lead to 28-23.
“You could really see a change physically in the way
Hendrickson was playing after that technical,” said Johnston.
The Lady Lions made four baskets from Mariah Carter in the quarter, to add to her career high of 25 points, holding onto a 32-31 lead at the end of three quarters of play.
In the fourth quarter, Hendrickson took the lead and held onto it throughout the quarter.
Venoris Carter hit a 3-pointer as the Lady Lions fought to stay in the ball game.
Hendrickson suddenly got hot from 3-point range hitting three shots in the quarter.
Lockhart fought back and cut the lead to a two-point difference, 46-44, with 16 seconds remaining. Hendrickson was able to knock down free throws and close the game out with a 50-44 victory.
“I”m very proud of how we played. That was the best four quarters we”ve played all year. We are going to continue to work hard, improve, and battle each game,” added Johnston.
