If behind every great team is a great coach, then behind every great coach is a great support system. In Lockhart, athletes and coaches are blessed with a first-rate group of parents and community supporters who take the time and make the effort to bridge the gaps where a cash-strapped school district might fail.
The Loc
khart Athletic Boosters work throughout the year to provide support, either in volunteerism at the Lions’ and Lady Lions’ home games, running concession stands and cheering their teams, no matter the outcome, or through contributions of behind-the-scenes equipment to keep athletes healthy and fit.
Recently, the Athletic Booster Club donated an electric stim machine and an ultrasound to LISD Athletics.
“The stim machine helps to stimulate muscles and blood flow to help [students] heal after injury or pulled muscles,” said athletic trainer Dana Anthony. “And the ultrasound, that can be used on scar tissue.”
Adding the machines to the training repertoire is an important step for Lockhart Athletics, Anthony said.
“We had a stim machine, but with the new one, we can use it to help even more of the kids who might need that kind of therapy,” she said.
The stim and ultrasound machines are the latest, but certainly not the last, on a “wish list” of items the LISD Athletics Department has given to the Athletic Boosters. The Club, to the best of their ability through fundraising and volunteerism, hopes to fill that list, said Booster Club President Andy Tolley.
“No doubt, additional training tools are required by other sports not [on our list],” Tolley said in a written statement. “Part of our mission as a club is to support all athletic programs in the district. We encourage parents to identify a local need, get a team of willing parents to approach us with a fund raising project for that specific need, and execute a plan to fill that need.”
The request is one that has proven successful in the past, with such donations as the stim machine and the ultrasound.
The Lockhart Lion Athletic Booster Club meets on the first Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Field House at Lockhart High School. Support of parents, and of the community at large, is not only desired, but welcome.
