Dimas Castro Jr.

Dimas Castro Jr. left this Earth to be with his Heavenly Father on May 15, 2025, after losing his almost four year battle with liver cancer. At the age of 59, he went in peace at home surrounded by loved ones.
Born in Austin, Texas, he was the son of Dimas Zapata Castro and Gonzala Longoria.
Dimas and his wife were reunited at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He was a commercial painter for 30 years for Schnurr, Inc. and Russell & Traugott. Dimas was a major Houston Oilers fan and continued following them even after they rebranded as the Houston Texans. He was a very kind, shy person who would not think twice about giving you the shirt off his back if you needed. Playing pool, watching sports, and riding his bike were a few of his favorite hobbies. Dimas also loved venturing out to San Antonio for the annual Tejano Music Awards Fan-Fair celebration.
Dimas is survived by his wife, Mary Ester Contreras-Castro; their daughter, Shelly Viesca, husband Jesus; and his beloved four grandchildren, Gigi, Sophie, Jessie and Baby Chuyito. Siblings; Paul (Becky), Yolanda (Juan), Jacinto (Della), Louis (Debi), Andrew (Chris), Pedro (Melanie), and countless nieces and nephews.
A special thank you to all those not listed, but still helped when they could. Dimas appreciated all the support and prayers that were given.
Pallbearers: Larry Marley, David Silva, Rick Garcia, Jesus Viesca, Jacob Gonzales, and Martin Rivera.
The family will receive friends on May 21, 2025, for the visitation at McCurdy Funeral Home beginning at 5PM. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 7PM. On Thursday, May 22, a mass of a Catholic Burial will be held at St. Mary of the Visitation Catholic Church at 10AM with the burial to follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
