Filing deadline nears 2006 election

Several Caldwell County offices will be up for election in 2006, and many area residents have expressed their intention to seek office, beginning with the March 2006 primaries.
When voters go to the polls next year, they will have the opportunity to choose leadership, not only at the state level, but in various local po

sitions. Those positions include: County Judge; County Commissioners for Precincts 2 and 4; Criminal District Attorney; District Clerk; County Clerk; County Treasurer and Justices of the Peace for all four county precincts.
On the state level, seats up for election include: Governor; Lieutenant Governor; Attorney General; United States Senator; United States Representative; and several seats in the state Senate and House of Representatives.
Anyone interested in running for office in 2006 must file with the local party chair on or before Jan. 2, 2006.
According to Republican Party chair Terry Alford and Democratic Party Chair Philip Ruiz, many of the individuals who have expressed their intention to run for office have not yet filed their paperwork.

According to Democratic Party Chair Philip Ruiz and Republican Party Chair Terry Alford, several other candidates have expressed their interest in seeking office, but have not yet filed the required paperwork. Both Riuz and Alford expect that more applications will be filed before the Jan. 2, 2006 deadline.
