George “Bubba” Chapman

George Robert “Bubba” Chapman of Lockhart, Texas, passed away on Aug. 9, 2012, at the age of 89. He was born on Feb. 1, 1923, in Lockhart, Texas, to George Henry and Jennie Mae Baker Chapman.

Bubba attended Texas A&M University until he joined the Navy in 1942, serving on the Battleship New Jersey. After his military discharge in 1946, he and Barbara Hoffman were mar

ried and resided in Lockhart.

Bubba loved people and enjoyed his associations with them in his real estate and ranching businesses. Coastal planting, oil and gas ventures, insurance sales, and “swapping and trading” of all kinds kept him busy. He and wife Barbara loved travelling and spending time with family and friends. Golfing, bowling, hunting and fishing were among his favorite pastimes. In later years, gardening and shelling pecans kept him active.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Hoffman Chapman; one son, Robert Chapman (Vannetta), of Lampasas, Texas; two daughters, Terri Braune (David), of Lockhart, Texas, and Cindy Nebrig (Mark), of Flower Mound, Texas; one sister, Jennie Lee Sanders, of Lockhart, Texas; seven grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Chapman, and two sisters, Doris Harris and Mary Nan Rector.

Family received friends at McCurdy Funeral Home from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 10, 2012. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, at First United Methodist Church in Lockhart, with Rev. Sheldon Johnson officiating. Interment followed at Lockhart City Cemetery in Lockhart.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, Lockhart, or to the charity of your choice.

The family extends special thanks to CTMC Hospice, Seton Medical Center Hays, Dr. Charles Laurence and staff, Advance Home Health, and caregivers Ralph Vasquez and Danyell Dunmon.

    Bubba, you will be missed by your family, friends, and anyone who knew you….I hope you enjoy your new adventure as you sit by that fishing hole waiting for that big one to come along.

    Family, know that you have one more angel watching over you to keep you safe until you all meet again…Rest in peace, Bubba!..
