The 13th Gig’Em & Hook’Em Golf Classic, held Saturday, Oct. 14 at the Lockhart State Park Golf Course was great fun and financially successful for both alumni organizations. Forty-two golfers participated and 52 sponsors contributed their financial support.

The tournament, jointly hosted by the Caldwell County Texas Exes and the Caldwell County A&M Club, netted nearly $9,800. These proceeds, shared equally by each alumni organization, provide scholarships to Texas A&M University at College Station and to the University of Texas at Austin for Caldwell County youth.

Following the tournament, the assembled golfers and sponsors enjoyed an excellent barbecue meal with all the trimmings provided by Kent Black and The Original Black’s Barbeque at the pavilion on the Top of the Hill.

Trophies emblazoned with the Gig’Em & Hook’Em logo were presented to the top three teams and other golfing luminaries.

First-place honors were awarded to the Longhorn team of Luling residents Leo Tiller, Stan Edwards, Mike Medcalf and Bobby Magallanez. Second-place winners included Ron Peterson, Justin McKee, Kyle Hope and Ian Stowe. The maroon and white Aggie team including Brad Westmoreland, Chris Schneider, BJ Westmoreland and Dennis Placke celebrated the third-place award.

Ty Davidson received the closest-to-the-pin award. The longest drive awards went to Haley Nidey and Mike Medcalf.

The Golf Committee is already planning the 14th Gig’Em & Hook’Em Golf Classic scheduled for May 2024 with the location to be announced and more details to come. The Gig’Em & Hook’Em Golf Classic is the only successful joint project in the State of Texas between Aggie and Longhorn alumni organizations. As the tournament continues to grow, it remains a positive and unifying force between the Caldwell County supporters of the two flagship universities in the State of Texas.
