Gordon Wayne Woody

Gordon Wayne Woody, beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away in his sleep on May 29, 2025, while visiting Dawson City in Canada’s Yukon Territory. He was 71 years old.
Born on October 20, 1953 in Austin, Texas, to Bill Woody and Joyce Hibler, he grew up in Houston and Austin. Gordon graduated from Westlake High School in 1973 with his sweetheart, Moira Quigley. They married in 1977 and settled in Lockhart to build a life filled with love and adventure. He possessed a deep appreciation for nature and civil service. Gordon worked as a carpenter for many years, crafting beautiful cabinets, toys, and handicrafts.
A devoted father, Gordon and Moira had four children together: Katherine Rose Woody, Thaddeus Scott Woody, Mary Elizabeth Woody, and Rebecca Belle Woody. He took great pride in being actively involved in their lives, from sports to theatre to academics to community service. He encouraged their growth and curiosity, instilled a profound respect for nature, and supported each of them in their journeys through the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. His guidance and enthusiasm inspired a lifelong love of the outdoors, learning, and making the world a better place. Gordon could always be found wherever his children were, cheering them on at every turn.
Traveling was one of Gordon’s greatest joys. From strolling the San Antonio River Walk and epic cross country American road trips, to boating in the Amazon rainforest of Brazil and African safaris, he cherished every adventure he shared with Moira. While he was born under a flag with 48 stars, Gordon stepped foot in his 50th state when he visited Alaska days before he passed, enjoying some of the state’s many wonders, including a tour of Denali National Park. Whether exploring new places or returning to favorite destinations, Moira and Gordon’s journeys together were a testament to their enduring partnership.
Gordon was an avid reader, devouring many books and newspapers. He also wrote many poetic and beautifully heartfelt messages to his wife and children. Gordon never met a stranger and often regaled those around him with wonderfully rich stories. He had a passion for making others laugh and took great pleasure in making his wife and children groan or roll their eyes at his cheesiest “Dad jokes.”
Gordon is survived by his wife, Moira, his four children, Katie and husband Marcelo, Thaddeus and wife Amy, Mary and husband Lance, Rebecca and husband Colton, and his grandson Marion Addison Oswood. His legacy of kindness, curiosity, and love for nature lives on in those he leaves behind.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. A memorial service for Gordon will be held at a later date with an announcement by his family.
