The Lady Lions hosted the Hendrickson Lady Hawks at the Lions” Den on Tuesday, Sept. 27, for a four-game battle that resulted in another district loss for the varsity team.
In the first game, the Lady Lions used strong front row attacks to keep the score even for the first 15 points. However, the Lady Hawks caught the Lady Lions
off-guards by using tips at the net to increase their lead. Hendrickson took the first win of the match, 16-25, over Lockhart.
For the second game, the Lady Hawks took the first lead, 6-1, with strong serving. The momentum changed for Lockhart after Venoris Carter stepped behind the serving line giving the Lady Lions a 5-point lead. Witte closes the victory for Lockhart, 25-22, after serving the game point.
For the third game, the Lady Lions grabbed the first lead after a kill from Kelly Witte set up by Krystal Laws. Natalie Raemsch increased the Lady Lions” lead from the serving line. Lockhart maintains the lead for the first ten points with Hendrickson trailing by only one point. The Lady Lions made a few critical errors on defense that cost them the lead. Trailing 20-16, Lockhart Coach Bernice Voigt calls a time-out for the Lady Lions. The break in the game didn”t stop the Lady Hawks momentum as they pursued the win, 17-25.
In the final game, the Lady Lions weren”t giving up as the lead bounced back and forth between the competing teams. Hendrickson strengthened their lead, 13-8, by forcing mistakes on the Lady Lions” defense with strong serves. The Lady Lions hustled to every free ball, but couldn”t catch up to the Lady Hawks. Hendrickson ended the fourth game with a 25-21 win.
Leading the Lady Lions on defense was Brianna Hinnenkamp with nine digs. Witte and Lindsey Wilson also hustled on defense with eight digs each.

The Lady Lions” freshman team didn”t have the same luck against Hendrickson as the junior varsity squad. They lost the match in three games, 25-22, 25-18, and 25-21.
The Lady Lions” varsity team met the Connally Cougars on Tuesday, Sept. 20, at the Lions” Den for a three-game defeat, 17-25, 12-25, and 14-25.
“The Connally Cougars came out strong and we never really got in the groove,” said Coach Voigt.”
Leading the team offensively was Laws with six kills and eight assists. Witte and Hinnenkamp also made four kills to add points to Lockhart”s scoreboard.
The Lady Lions were scheduled to play Taylor on Friday, Sept. 23; however, the game was rescheduled for Monday, Sept. 26, due to the hurricane threat.
“The girls were a little rusty in the opening game dropping it 10-25,” Coach Voigt said. “In game two and three we played better, but could not over come Taylor.”
The Lady Lions lost the second game, 21-25, and the third as well, 20-25.
