Lady Lion softball falls to Bastrop
Varsity
The Lady Lion varsity softball team traveled to Bastrop on Tuesday, March 28, for a disappointing loss.
Bastrop scored first with two runs in the first inning and two more runs in the fourth inning.
The Lady Lions scored one run in the fourth and one run in the fifth. This would not prove to be enough against the Lady Bears. The Lady Lions lost 8-2
in six and half innings.
Brittany Naumann started pitching and Adrianna Parra was brought in for relief.
Bobbi Schulle had two singles, while Janie Juarez, Karoline Pfefferkorn, and Yvette Alarcon all made singles. Zaida Hager completed a triple for the Lady Lions.
The varsity team traveled to Gonzales for a tournament on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 24-25.
Lockhart faced Somerset, Yoakum and Shiner in pool play on Friday.
Lockhart beat Somerset, 7-1, and Yoakum, 3-2. Lockhart lost to Shiner 1-0.
The Lady Lions began tournament play on Friday night and beat Gonzales 6-5.
“We tried to play on Saturday and the weather forced us to call the game against Episcopal. The tournament was cancelled but we were still fortunate to bring home two all-tournament selections,” Coach Lisa Cone said.
Bobbi Schulle and Noelle Marquina were selected for their outstanding play in the tournament.
Junior Varsity
On Tuesday, Feb. 21, the Lady Lions junior varsity softball team traveled to Bastrop where they defeated the Bears, 13-3.
Big hits came from Chelsy Martinez and Krista Law who went two for three with a double. Brandi Alvarez went one for two with a double, while Anette McElroy and April Ruiz each had a single.
The winning pitcher was Ruiz striking out four and giving up only two hits.
The Lady Lions record is 2-0, and they will host Marble Falls Tuesday, Feb. 28, at 5 p.m.
