Lady Lions fall short against Lobos
By Anthony Collins
Lockhart encountered a heartbreaking loss in its game against the Lehman Lobos of Kyle on Teacher Appreciation Night last week, as they lost their lead in the 7th inning and ultimately fell short with a 4-3 defeat.
It was during the third inning that the Lady Lions managed to gain an advantage, thanks to an error that led to a run and allowed them to take a 2-1 lead. The Lady Lions’ offensive efforts were supported by Presli Moebes, Genesis Lopez, and Dani Valdez, who each drove in a run.
Additionally, Moebes showcased her speed by successfully stealing two bases.
Although the game didn’t go the Lion’s way, Coach Manny Espino said, “It was a great and hard-fought game from both teams. In the end, it was a tough loss for us. Three out of our four district losses have been games in which we had the lead going into the sixth inning or deeper in the game.
“We will learn from this and continue to grow as a team. We go back to work on Wednesday to get ready for Leander. Then we start the second round of district play. It should be exciting to see how we do as we are continuing to get better every day.”
Leander dropped Lockhart, 8-3, on Friday.
Now 9-16-1 overall and 2-5 in district pay, Lockhart played host to Hays Tuesday and will travel to Glenn on April 2.
