Lady Lions softball wins another District game
By Anthony Collins
After an impressive win last Friday, the Lady Lions won their first district game in 2 years under Coach Manny Espino, defeating the Cedar Park Timberwolves. The Lady Lions scored 12 runs and only gave up 1.
“Winning the first district game in two years is huge,” Espino said.
That momentum continued into Monday’s game against the Rouse Raiders. The Raiders jumped out to a 6-0 lead going into the bottom of the 4th inning, but that’s when the Lady Lions’ bats came alive.
Espino advised the team, “to be aggressive and selective at pitches,” and they followed his guidance, scoring 7 runs in the 4th.
The biggest hit was an eighth-pitch single by Presli Moebes that drove in two. Though Rouse rallied to take a 9-7 lead the next inning, the Lady Lions fought back with doubles from Emma Betancourt and Moebes to regain a 10-9 lead in the 5th, holding on to win their second district game.
“I’m super proud of how we overcame adversity,” Espino said after the game.
With momentum on their side, the Lady Lions now travel to face the Liberty Hill Panthers on Wednesday.
