To the Editor:

The Texas Dept. of State Health Services would like to thank all the Volunteers from the Central Texas area that participated in the county’s first drill that tested the local response to a Strategic National Incident.

Those included in this Drive-thru Flu Shot clinic on Oct. 25, who graciously assisted with organizing and performing this count

ywide operation are:

– The Emergency Management Coordinator and the multiple constables he enlisted and the Hays County EMC;
– Commissioner Tom Bonn and the county road crew he enlisted;
– City of Lockhart Emergency Medical Services director and staff and Lockhart Police Dept. staff;
– The Lockhart school district staff, especially the City Line Junior High school nurse and District RN director;
– The Luling School District RN director;
– The local chapter of American Red Cross;
– The Protect Texas Volunteers
– The Pegasus Schools Medic, staff, and students;
– The Hays County Health Dept. staff and Bioterrorism planner; and
– Capital Area Council of Governments

The Drill/Drive-thru activity was successful and helped to prepare those locally for an incident, such as a Pandemic Flu outbreak. We are now more adept at organizing and performing an emergency mass biological dispensing or vaccination event.

Lockhart DSHS would like to say “Thank you all for a job well done!”

Monte Kay Frederick, RN
Public Health Nurse
