Lions maul Tigers, 21-7

The Lockhart Lions varsity football team traveled to play the Floresville Tigers on Friday, Sept. 15, adding a win to their record as senior Terrance Waldon led them to the 21-7 victory with three touchdowns.
Waldon”s quick feet earned him 132 rushing yards on 12 carries for the Lions giving him his third straight game with

100+ rushing yards. Waldon also maintains the highest earned rushing yards in Central Texas with 374 yards, according to the Austin American-Statesman.
Demetrius Joseph gained 81 rushing yards on 15 carries against Floresville, and he stepped up one position in the Austin American-Statesman Poll as he was ranked seventh in Central Texas with 244 yards totaled.
Lockhart”s strong running game gave them a 6-yard touchdown in the first quarter, a 41-yard touchdown in the third, and a 44-yard touchdown in the fourth with 0:46 remaining on the clock. Floresville”s lone touchdown was scored in the first quarter on a 10-yard run.
“Defensively, there were several standouts including Calvin Johnson with seven solo tackles and nine assists,” Head Coach Les Goad said. “Alex Joseph had an interception and David Moore had a key sack to end the Tigers” hopes on a key drive.”
The win gives the Lions an overall record of 2-1.
The Lions will have an open week, Sept. 18-22; however, they will begin district play against the Hays Rebels on Friday, Sept. 29. The game will be played on Rebel soil with kick-off at 7:30 p.m.
The Rebels have a current record of 1-1 with a win over Boerne and a loss to Cedar Park.
