The Varsity Lions have had a tough time getting a win lately, but not for lack of trying. The Lions lost 3-2 in extra innings to the Shertz Steele Knights on Wednesday, March 19, and 17-7 in a tough battle against the Clemens Buffaloes on Thursday, March 20.
Lions vs. Knights
The Lions fought as hard as they could fo
r as long as they could on Wednesday night, but it was the Knights who found the “luck of the Irish” at Lion Field at the bottom of the eighth inning with a game-winning run.
“We had our chances throughout the whole game,” coach Mark Elder said. “We just could not get that key hit or make the big play.”
Multiple errors at crucial times and stone cold bats kept the Lions out of the win column.
Lions vs. Buffaloes
The Clemens Buffaloes and Lockhart Lions were both 0-3 in district play going into their game on Thursday night. Each team was looking for a win, but only one could claim victory at the end of the night.
The Buffaloes delivered each time they got up to bat, handing the Lions a 17-7 loss. Their batters were on fire from the start, making timely hits and jumping out to an 8-1 lead over the Lions.
The Lions eventually warmed up and came back with five runs for an 8-6 game by the bottom of the fifth.
Unfortunately, that was all the action from the Lions. The Buffaloes scored nine additional runs before the game’s end.
“Obviously, after [the previous evening’s] loss to Steele we still haven’t recovered,” Elder said after the game.
The Lions travel to Kyle to face the Lehman Lobos on Tuesday, March 25, and host the New Braunfels Unicorns at Lion Field on Friday, March 28.
