With the help of the Austin Police Department, the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Department recently closed at least five open cases and retrieved property stolen in a rash of burglaries around Lockhart.
Sheriff’s Department Public Information Officer Paul Cowan announced on Tuesday 25-year-old Samuel Peralez, of Lockh
art, was taken into custody by officers in Austin after a traffic stop there revealed Peralez had stolen property in his vehicle. Further questioning and investigation led detectives to connect Peralez to several burglaries, including incidents on FM 3158 near McMahan, Dale Lane and in the 4000 block of Highway 183. Cowan said Peralez also confessed to a burglary on Rogers Ranch Road, near Niederwald.
During the interview, Peralez admitted to storing stolen material at his home near Lockhart. After obtaining a search warrant, detectives searched the residence and retrieved property, which was later taken to the Sheriff’s Department for processing.
Cowan suggested it is possible Peralez is connected to still more burglaries, which are still under investigation. Additionally, the suspect faces charges from the Austin Police Department, and agents with Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) have filed state and federal charges pending against the man.
