Despite putting together a strong start to the season, Lockhart hit a rough patch Friday night, falling 3–0 to the Liberal Arts & Science Academy – Austin Raptors.
The loss carried an added edge, as the Raptors appeared motivated by a previous defeat to Lockhart in January 2025. On this night, LASA turned the tables, controlling the match and handing the Lions a rare shutout loss.
With the setback, Lockhart’s record slipped to 6-3-1 on the season, still a solid mark as the schedule turns toward more familiar competition.
That next chapter begins quickly. Lockhart will open in-conference play on Friday when the Lions face longtime rival Lehman at Lions Stadium in a 7:15 p.m. kickoff, a matchup that should provide an immediate test as district play gets underway.
Lions compete against Leander and Rouse in District matchups
By Collin Hart
The Lockhart Lions boys’ basketball program faced a challenging stretch of district play with back-to-back games on the road against Leander and Rouse, continuing to gain experience and show resilience against tough competition.
In the matchup against Leander, the freshman team dropped a close 54–50 contest, while the JV squad fell 54–18. The varsity Lions battled after a slow first half, making key halftime adjustments and coming out with strong energy in the third quarter. Lockhart cut the deficit to just eight points early in the fourth quarter but was unable to finish the comeback, ultimately falling 48–32. Head coach Collin Hart said he was proud of the team’s fight and response after halftime. The night also featured Junior High Night, where Lockhart recognized its junior high players at halftime, drawing a great crowd and celebrating the future of the Lions basketball program.
Lockhart returned to action against Rouse, where the freshman team continued its strong district play with a 50–43 victory, marking its second district win of the season following an earlier win over Hays. The JV team faced a tough Rouse squad and fell 77–9.
In the varsity contest, the Lions played a strong first half, but Rouse’s offensive firepower proved difficult to contain late in the second quarter. Rouse closed the half on a 13–0 run and went on to secure an 82–40 win. Hart noted that Rouse is a team that can score in bunches, knocking down 10 three-pointers and shooting 63 percent from two-point range. Despite the result, Hart praised his team’s effort and competitiveness, emphasizing that the Lions continue to play hard and never back down from a challenge.
The freshman team’s continued success has them firmly in the district race, and Hart credited Coach Greene for the outstanding job he is doing with the group as they push toward a potential district championship.
The Lions will be back in action this week with a home game Tuesday against Lehman and a road matchup Friday against Glenn. Freshman and JV will tip off at 5:30 p.m., followed by varsity at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday night will also be Teacher Appreciation Night, recognizing the dedication and impact of Lockhart’s educators.
