Mary Louise Lloyd Schmidt, 97, of Lockhart, formerly of Austin, died April 26, 2009, in Lockhart.

Born May 11, 1911, in Austin, the daughter of Walter and Louise Lucksinger Lloyd, she was a life long member of St Martin’s Lutheran Church, and a graduate from Austin High School, She worked in the stenographic bureau of the University of Texas, then as a typist in pri

vate business, and finally as secretary at the Lutheran Campus Ministry at the University.

She married Fred Otto Schmidt on Aug. 29, 1937, and lived in Austin and raised her two children – Charles and Mary Lou. She moved to Lockhart in November 1997. In all of these years in her church, her family, and her work, the care for and interest in the people with whom she came into contact left a legacy of service.

Survivors include her son, Charles Schmidt and wife, Virginia, and their sons, Stephen and William, of Fort Worth; and her daughter, Mary Lou Walther and husband, Wayne, of Lockhart, and their sons, Carl Walther and wife, Katrina, of Austin, and Nicholas Walther, of Houston. She also leaves a sister, Marjorie Bradford and husband, George, of Oklahoma City; brother, Donald Lloyd and wife, Geraldine, of Austin; and sisters-in-law, Helen Lloyd, of Bastrop, and Nora Schmidt Pease, of Friendswood.

Visitation with the family was held on Wednesday, April 29, 2009, from 6 – 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar, in Austin, Texas. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2009, at St. Martin’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 606 W. 15th St., Austin, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials in Mrs. Schmidt’s name be made to the St. Martin’s General Fund or to Grace Lutheran Church in Lockhart.
