Mayor, Council races set for November election

     With several candidates filing on the last day,  the field is set for Lockhart’s Nov. 3 city election.  Eight candidates have thrown their hats into the ring vying for three positions on the Lockhart City Council and the Mayor’s seat. The deadline for candidates to submit applications was 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 17.

   The race for mayor will feature Jeffrey Michelson and Angie Gonzales-Sanchez. The position is open as current Mayor Lew White is not seeking another term.

   The most crowded City Council race, District 3, four candidates filed before Monday’s deadline. Jonathan Gonzales, Jason de la Cruz, Ron Faulstich and Joann Irizarry Hamilton will compete for the seat. District 3 is currently represented by Councilmember John Lairsen, who is not seeking another term.

   Two candidates have filed for the District 4 seat. Mary Beth Nickel and Rebecca Menke.   The District 4 seat is currently held by Michelson, who is leaving the district position to seek the Mayor’s office.

    Lockhart voters will have several choices as they determine who will help lead the city during the next term. Election Day is Nov. 3. Watch for early voting details and final poll locations in s future issue of the Lockhart Post-Register.
