One arrested in fireworks stand robbery

Just after midnight on Friday, deputies from the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a robbery in progress as the United Fireworks Stand in the 19000 block of San Marcos Highway, near Martindale. Officers from the San Marcos Police Department and the Hays County Sheriff’s Office were contacted to assist the responding deputies.

es were starting to close for the evening when the suspect arrived at the fireworks stand. The suspect displayed a handgun and stated he wanted the money and he was going to kill them.

The suspect ordered them into the fireworks stand and got another employee out of a motor home parked by the stand. He told all four employees he was going to kill them. The suspect discharged the handgun into the ground and demanded all of the money. The suspect then demanded the fireworks and all four employees started to load the suspect’s vehicle.

When the suspect picked up a large display, one of the employees was able to disarm him and then tackled the suspect to the ground. The employees held the suspect on the ground until law enforcement arrived and took custody of the suspect.

The 23-year-old suspect, a resident of San Marcos, was charged with multiple counts of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon and theft. He was jailed with bond set at $415,000.
