PRAIRIE LEA – After three consecutive losses, Prairie Lea bounced back in a big way, routing Buckholts, 66-6, on homecoming night.

The Indians, now 2-3 overall, have an open date before traveling to Medina Oct. 6. The Bobcats are 4-1 overall.

Prairie Lea Head Coach Steven Brown said most of the teams in the 5-team District 16 were once Class 2A schools before dropping to 6-man football.

The Indians led 41-0 after the first quarter and cruised from there, allowing only one touchdown pass to the Badgers (0-5).

“We let one of their guys get behind us for a big play and we can’t give up big plays,” Brown said, “especially over the next five weeks.”

Jimmy Saberones ran for five touchdowns and caught one TD reception while rushing 14 times for 190 yards. Lane Fiscus had three touchdowns, rushing 8 times for 90 yards.

Edwin Vasquez added 3 runs for 75 yards, including a 30-yard TD run.

Jordan Ramirez also hauled in a 10-yard TD pass.

Indians’ quarterback Gabriel Garcia was 4-of-6 through the air for 90 yards and 2 touchdowns.

“We played well in our first game, then stumbled the past three,” Brown said. “I told the guys we were really only out of one of those, but we hurt ourselves mentally.”

Keyunna Reed was crowned the Prairie Lea Homecoming Queen, and Bryant Garcia the Homecoming King for Prairie Lea.
