Rose Marie Reneau Duvall was born on April 18, 1938. She entered her Father’s Kingdom on May 24, 2016.

Early in her life, Rose found that she took joy in serving those older than herself. She used that calling throughout her life, eventually establishing the Hill Country Senior Citizen’s Activity Center through her work with the First Baptist Church of Dripping Springs.

Under direction from then-Governor Mark White, the Activity Center became a “model center,” for communities throughout the State – a Center that he said should be replicated statewide.

Rose was also instrumental in building a 14-unit apartment complex for senior citizens, and later a 60-bed nursing home; each of these projects remain important to the Dripping Springs Community.

Rose devoted her life to Christ when she was nine years old. That devotion remained throughout her days, as she worked hand-in-hand with her husband, Don, as he answered his calling as a spiritual leader for several Central Texas communities and churches.

She was a driving force behind the Capitol Area Rural Transportation Service, and was the first member appointed to their Board of Directors. That appointment allowed her the opportunity to watch first-hand as her work developed into great things for her community, for the Hill Country, and the State of Texas. Additionally, Rose served on the Board of Directors of the State of Texas Department on Aging. Through that work, she was invited twice to the White House Conference on Aging, and taught a week-long class on volunteerism in Washington, D.C.

Rose’s loving spirit and caring for others was the driving force behind her burning desire to serve. A successful fundraiser and organizer, she always said she was happy to ask anyone for anything, as long as she was asking on behalf of someone that she was serving, rather than for her own benefit.

Her labors of love were never more important to her, though, than when she was serving her family. In addition to her husband, she leaves behind two sons, Ray and wife, Irene, and their two daughters, and Gibb and wife, Julie, and their two daughters and one son. She also built cherished memories with seven great-grandchildren, who she loved with all her heart and never forgot to pray for.

Funeral Services will be held at First United Methodist Church, 313 W. San Antonio St., in Lockhart at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 29, 2016. A private family burial will follow at a later time.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions in Rose’s name to the Martindale United Methodist Church Building Fund, PO Box 552, Martindale, Texas, 78655.

    Dear Bro. Don–
My heart was deeply saddened to learn of your beloved Rose’s passing. The last time I saw both of you was at the visitation services for Alford Hohman, another amazing soul as dear Rose. My memories of Rose will always remain in my heart as I let my mind “drift” back to the Old Tabernacle at Fitzhugh Baptist Church, hearing your messages, watching Rose move quickly among the Tables loaded with Food for “Dinner on the Grounds” and most of all, her Loving SMILE!!!!! To read of all the many accomplishments Rose reached throughout her life is stunning and she will forever have her mark on the Hill country here in Central Texas. Both of you touched my life deeply and my Faith in God will remain STRONG–because I witnessed that same FAITH in both of you!!!!! Please pass my words onto your family and know you are always in my heart… Martha Herden
