Salvador “Chava” Martinez, 24 of Midland, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, March 22, 2009 at Midland Memorial Hospital after an oilfield accident. He was born on Oct. 11, 1984 in San Marcos, Texas. He was raised and educated in Lockhart, Texas.

Salvador moved to Midland in 2001. He met and later married Dana Michelle Gonzales on July 31, 2004, i

n Midland. He had been working as a roughneck for several years and was currently working for Matlock Drilling Company at the time of his accident.

Salvador was a loving and dedicated husband, father, son, uncle, and son-in-law who enjoyed music, dancing, sports and barbequing for his family and friends. He will be greatly missed.
Salvador was preceded in death by a grandfather, Domingo Escobedo.

He leaves behind his wife, Dana Martinez, of Midland; son, Evan Xavier Martinez, of Midland; brother, Oscar Martinez and wife, Sophia, of Lockhart; sister, Alicia Duran and husband, Marco Antonio, of Austin; and his parents Pascal Rodriguez and Ramona Martinez, both of Austin. He also leaves behind a grandmother, Manuela Escobedo, of Lockhart; father and mother-in-law, Ruben and Mona Lerma, of Midland; sister-in-law, Dimerie Garcia and husband, Gee, of Midland; father-in-law Ignacio Gonzales, Jr., of Midland; nephew, Aydan Garcia, of Midland; three nieces: Lacy Martinez and Savanna Martinez, both of Lockhart, and Nayeli Duran, of Austin; and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.

A prayer service was held on Tuesday, March 24, 2009, at 7 p.m. at Lewallen-Garcia-Pipkin Chapel. Funeral service was held on Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Lewallen-Garcia-Pipkin Chapel. Interment followed at Serenity Memorial Gardens.

Services are under the direction of Lewallen-Garcia-Pipkin Funeral Home.
