Schlotzsky’s, Benny Boyd open doors in Lockhart

Last week was a significant one for economic development in Lockhart, with two businesses that each have a big presence throughout Texas celebrating their official grand openings.
Schlotzsky’s Austin Eatery held its much-anticipated grand opening on Thursday, prompting a line to wrap around the entire building as the first 100 customers were promised a free sandwich every week for a year with the purchase of six cinnamon rolls. Later that day, Benny Boyd Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram opened its doors, giving local residents another choice for new and used car purchases.
In many communities, the two grand openings would have been noteworthy but relatively insignificant, but not so in Lockhart, where Economic Development Corporation Director Rob Tobias says local consumers taking their money to other communities with more options for consumers has traditionally been a big obstacle.
