The Lockhart Youth Lady Lions recently completed its first year with a Select Girls Basketball Team at the 12-and-under level.

The team played in tournaments in San Antonio and Round Rock, and it got a chance to play at the University of Incarnate Word’s gymnasium along the way.

The travel team was comprised of 12-and-under girls, but assistant coach Whitney Winn said there were some 9- and 10-year-old players on the Lockhart team. All of the players attend Lockhart ISD schools.

Starting in April, the team finished its season in August.

The team was led by head coach Isaac Gutierrez, and assistants Winn and Aaron Harris.

Definitely lot of growth still need, fundamentals. First select youth team for the girls, 12-under

“Our goal is to teach our girls the game of basketball while also building on work ethic, teamwork, discipline, and giving back to our community,” Winn said. “We coaches recognize the youth is the future of this community and we’re doing our part to give back through them.”
