Awards pile in for powerlifting team

Lockhart’s muscle held strong at the Georgetown Powerlifting Classic, with the girls placing third in the overall team standings with 30 total points and the boys finishing in second place with 27 total points.

Individual placements included:

Girls 105: Kaitlyn Mendez (2)

Girls 132: Ava Herrera (2)

Girls 148: Marie Cook (2)

Girls 181: Peyton Crabill (3)

Girls 259+: Zenaida Tucker (1), Leah Ovalle (2)

Boys 132: Cade Borchert (1)

Boys 181: Ceasar Hernandez (1), Sean McKinney (3)

Boys 220: Tristan Amos (1)

Boys 242: Riley Owen (3)

BASKETBALL

Lions keeping pace at halfway point

Lockhart improved its District 17-5A record to 4-3 last week, beating Austin LASA 53-48 on Friday on the road.

Jah Gulley led the Lions in scoring, finishing with 19 points and Major New added 16 points, 16 rebounds and four blocks. Other scorers included Daniel Morales with six points and Brady Stephenson, Ashton Dickens and Tay Andrews with four points apiece.

In other boys hoops news, the Lions celebrated New, a senior, achieving two milestones during his Lockhart career: 600 points and 500 rebounds. 

The Lions’ coaching staff also reported that a second college has entered the Gulley sweepstakes. The senior guard recently received an offer from the University of Health Sciences Pharmacy in St. Louis, Missouri.
