Mrs. Susie E. White, 94, of Lockhart, died Sunday, March 2, 2008, in a Longview, Texas, nursing facility. She was born in Priddy, Mills County, Texas, on Feb. 9, 1914, the daughter of John Valentine Lewis and Gertrude May Grindstaff Lewis. Mrs. White was a member of the Delhi Baptist Church in Rosanky.
Mrs. White was a homemaker, and the devoted wife of former Southern

Baptist pastor, the Rev. Herbert E. White, who preceded her in death in 1983. She met and married Rev. White in 1929, and gave birth to one daughter, Amanda May White Glins, formerly of Martindale, who preceded her in death in 1982. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Russell and J.V. Lewis, and two sisters, Anna Belle Lewis and Ruth Lewis Hartley.
She is survived by her only grandchild, Mrs. Amelia Louise Glins Hudman of Longview; five great-grandchildren: Virginia Hudman Gerhardt of Denver City, Texas, Susan Hudman Benson, of Tulsa, Okla., Abby Hudman Titus of Lockhart, and Hannah and Meredith Hudman of Longview, Texas; seven great-great grandchildren: Gage, Maegan and Ethan Gerhardt of Denver City, Texas, and Kaitlyn, Nathan, Abigail and Grayson Benson, of Tulsa, Okla.; nephew Jack “Sonny” Hartley of Midland; and nieces Shirley Hartley Counts and Jo Ann Hartley Birdsong of Midland.
Funeral services for Mrs. White will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 7, at McCurdy Funeral Home in Lockhart, with Rev. Robert Hudman officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Lawn Memorial Park near Martindale. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 6 – 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 6.
Pallbearers will be Adrian White, Gary White, Gary McMullen, Clark Walker, Jay Creighton, Don George and Bro. Jim Hickman.
Memorial gifts may be made in memory of Mrs. White to the American Heart Association, or to the Delhi Baptist Church, 6172 S.H. 304, Rosanky, TX 78953.
