Theriot: Traffic analysis for proposed subdivision needed before approval

The approval of a preliminary plat that would allow an Austin developer to move forward in his plans to install a 23-house subdivision in Caldwell County will have to wait after commissioners decided on Monday to wait for a traffic impact analysis to be conducted before making a decision.
The property – 78.44 acres located off Tower Road and Black Ankle Road – is situated off roads that citizens who spoke during a public hearing said are in rough shape and aren’t suited for increased traffic.
It was unclear during the meeting whether a traffic impact analysis was required for the project to proceed. Caldwell County Attorney Jordan Powell said the area did not attract enough traffic to trigger the need for a TIA.
But Commissioner Ed Theriot said he did not have enough information to approve the preliminary plat without the analysis.
