Amelia Sanchez Martinez

Heaven gained another Angel today, Amelia Sanchez Martinez, on April 26, 2018 at the age of 81. Amelia was one of 9 children born to Guillermo and Marcelina De La Cruz Sanchez in San Marcos, TX. She married Cruz Martinez, June 4, 1960 in Uhland, TX. From this union 5 children were born.
Amelia enjoyed being active with in the Catholic Church. She would spread the word of God by teaching CCD classes, visiting nursing homes and praying the Rosary at funeral services in and around Central Texas. She was a Eucharistic minister at San Francisco Javier Parrish, Austin, TX. Amelia will be missed by her large family, she was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and great grandmother.
She is preceded in death by her parents and infant son, Jose Alfredo Martinez, brothers; Domingo Sanchez, Daniel Sanchez and Robert Sanchez.
To cherish her memory, she is survived by her husband of 57 years, Cruz Martinez, daughters; Terri St. Hilaire (Jim), Gloria Martinez (Michael Warzek), Nancy Simmons (Steve), Carol Islas (Tony); brother, Pete Sanchez of Washington; sisters; Gloria Teneyuque of Michigan, Sulema Cisneros of Kyle, Lydia Rodriguez, Velia Chagoya, both of San Marcos, 10 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Where there is great grief there is great love.
The family received friends on Monday, April 30th from 5-7 with the Rosary recited at 7pm at McCurdy Funeral Home, Lockhart, Texas. Mass was held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Lockhart, Texas beginning at 10 am on Tuesday, May 1, 2018. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Lockhart, Texas.
