Connie Nelson
Connie Steinle Nelson, 81 of Austin, passed away on July 20, 2013. Connie was born in San Antonio, Texas, on April 16, 1932.
She graduated from Lockhart High School in 1950 and moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, in 1957. There, she sang and danced in the musical productions that accompanied headliners’ scheduled two shows a night. She was featured in the shows of famed ??
?Rat Pack” members Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr. as well as with other luminaries at the Flamingo, Tropicana and Desert Inn.
She returned to Austin to marry Hal Nelson, news anchor at KTBC, who later obtained his law degree from the University of Texas. Connie and Hal were married on Jan. 10, 1960.
In 1973, she obtained her cosmetology license and worked in that capacity for many years, and received her real estate license in 1980. She was always interested in science of healing, so she decided to study traditional Chinese medicine, studying in Harbin, China, receiving her national and state license in Texas. She went to work at an acupuncture clinic and later retired in 1993.
Throughout her life, she maintained her love of music and dance. She enjoyed fitness and exercise as well as ongoing educational pursuits and loved nature and the outdoors, frequently engaging in nature walks and camping.
A devoted mother and grandmother, she actively and generously blessed the lives of her devoted family.
Connie is lovingly remembered by by her husband, Hal; son, Michael; grandson, Eric; twin sister, Barbara; nephews, Steven and James Cathcart, and Richard Pfefferkorn, his wife Deborah, and great nieces, Kelly and Stacy; half-brother Frank Steinle; cousin, John Roy Carter and his wife Elizabeth; half sisters, Iona Smith and DeEtte Johnston; and other family and friends.
Memorial services were conducted at 1 p.m. on Monday, July 29, 2013, in the Colonial Chapel of Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 N. Lamar Blvd., Austin, Texas
