Caldwell County wants your input on plan

Caldwell County is updating its Hazard Mitigation Plan for 2026, and they want to hear from you! The plan looks at local natural hazards, like flooding, winter storms, drought and lays out ways to reduce their impact and keep communities safer.
To get residents involved, the county is hosting a Community Feedback Session on Tuesday, December 9, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Caldwell County Courthouse, 110 S. Main St., Lockhart, TX, in the 2nd Floor Courtroom. Planning and grant consultants will be there to talk about the plan, answer questions, and collect input from the community.
If you can’t make it in person, no problem, you can still share your thoughts by taking the online hazard mitigation survey. It’s quick and easy to fill out.
So, what exactly is a hazard mitigation plan? It’s a team effort between the county, cities, and local districts to:
1. Identify natural hazards that pose the biggest risks in our area.
2. Look at what’s working well, and what could be improved, in disaster response.
3. Create long-term strategies to protect lives, property, and community infrastructure.
Basically, it’s all about being prepared. Investing in safety before a disaster hit can save a lot of money and heartache later. In fact, according to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce (2024), every $1 spent on community resilience and disaster preparedness saves $13 in avoided losses, property damage, and cleanup costs.
Your feedback really does make a difference. By getting involved, you’re helping Caldwell County build a stronger, safer, and more resilient future for everyone.
