Daniel M. Vann, Jr. of Red Rock, Texas, passed away on April 6, 2013, at the age of 91. He was born on Oct. 6, 1921, in Cold Springs, Texas, to Daniel M. and Nettie (Beshell) Vann.

Daniel was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Daniel was a sergeant in the U.S. Army during WWII and a recipient of a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. His unwavering faith i

n God was demonstrated through every word and deed. He was ordained as a deacon at Allendale Baptist Church in Houston in 1956. He has been a devoted servant and active member of McMahan Baptist Church since 1964. He would have celebrated 68 years of marriage to his loving wife, Vi, this June.

Daniel was preceded in death by his parents; ten brothers and sisters; his son, Dennis Vann; and a grandson, Tony Sumler.

He is survived by his loving wife, Violet “Vi” Pederson Vann; daughter, Christy (Christina) Crow, of Red Rock; daughter-in-law, Sandra Vann; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Family received friends at McCurdy Funeral Home from 6 – 8 p.m. on Monday, April 8, 2013. Services were held on Tuesday, April 9, 2013. Interment followed at Pettytown Cemetery in Pettytown.
