The Freshmen Lady Lions lost their third game in a row to the Lehman Lady Lobos 44-16 at the Lockhart High School “Old Gym” on Friday Jan. 2.

The Lady Lions fell 45-23 to the Hendrickson Lady Hawks on Friday, Dec. 19 and fell 56-16 to the Hays Lady Rebels on Monday, Dec. 15.

Lockhart vs. Lehman
The Lady Lions

fell hard to the Lady Lobos who came out howling in the first and second quarter on Friday. The Lady Lobos took full control of the court, scoring 17 points in the first and 16 in the second.

The Lady Lions scored a single point in the first and four in the second, ending the half at 33-5.

“The Lehman Lady Lobos were the first game of 2009 for the Lady Lions,” Coach Katina Flournoy-Walker said. “The Lady Lobos came out firing, but the Lady Lions were not going down without a fight. It was a hard battle, especially without Samantha Cowan and Veronica Rodriguez. Elizabeth Thomas and Ashley Acosta stepped up with their tenacious defense. They caused nothing but frustration for their opponents. Unfortunately, the final score did not reflect how hard the Lady Lions played.”
The Lady Lions scored the most points during the third quarter. They scored seven points while allowing only six from the Lady Lobos.

The fourth quarter was the closest in scoring, with the Lady Lobos scoring five points and the Lady Lions scoring four.

Thomas scored six points with three two-point baskets. Brianna Riles scored five with a pair of two pointers and a free throw. Bradie Bartsch scored three with a two-point shot and a free throw. Candece Berry contributed a two point shot. The game ended at 44-16.

Lockhart vs. Hendrickson
“Bradie took it to the Lady Hawks right from the start,” Flournoy-Walker said. “She went to the free throw line 17 times. The goal was to get Hendrickson in foul trouble early and the plan worked.”

Despite their efforts the Lady Lions fell 45-23. They fell short at the free throw line, making only 11 out of 43 shots. Cowan led the Lady Lions in scoring with seven points and 12 rebounds.

Lockhart vs. Hays
The Hays Lady Rebels defeated the Lady Lions with a score of 56-16 on Monday, Dec. 15.

After charging on to the court and dominating the game from the start, the Lady Rebels left the Lady Lions stunned.
“The Lady Rebels were a tough team,” Flournoy-Walker said. “The Lady Lions fought hard from beginning to end and were determined to leave the Rebels with a lasting impression, but they final score was 56-16 in favor of Hays.”
Riles led the Lady Lions with six points.

The Lady Lions will host the San Marcos Lady Rattlers on Friday, Jan. 9 at 5:30 p.m. Check next week’s Post-Register for scores and highlights.
