Here are coach’s game recaps for the Lockhart Lions varsity baseball team from their recent tournament play:

March 4: Lockhart Lions Varsity and Pflugerville Connally Tie

The Lockhart Lions Varsity baseball team tied the game on a double in the sixth inning, leading them to tie Pflugerville Connally 3-3 on March 4.

The Lions got things moving in the first inning when Gio Rogue drove in one run on a single. They evened things up at three in the bottom of the sixth inning when Derek Gannon doubled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run.

Ernesto Suarez, Roque, Rene Delgadillo, Gannon, and Jacob Contreras each collected one hit to lead Lockhart Lions Varsity.

March 4: Weiss Nearly Erases 6-Run Deficit In Loss To Lockhart Lions Varsity

Lockhart Lions Varsity got out to a six-run lead in the third inning and held on for an 8-6 victory over Weiss on Thursday. Weiss scored four runs in the failed comeback on a double by Villarreal in the fourth, a stolen base by Patrone in the fifth, a in the seventh, and a single by Fisher in the seventh.

Both pitching staffs had their hands full, frequently dealing with runners on base. Lockhart Lions Varsity collected six hits and Weiss had six.

Weiss fired up the offense in the first inning, when Mueller singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.

Lockhart Lions Varsity pulled away for good with seven runs in the third inning. In the third Rene Delgadillo drew a walk, scoring one run, Ethan Bryant was hit by a pitch, driving in a run, Derek Gannon drew a walk, scoring one run, an error scored one run for Lockhart Lions Varsity, Gavin Gomez singled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run, Nick Ogeda singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run, and James Magallanez singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run.

Gannon earned the victory on the mound for Lockhart Lions Varsity. Gannon surrendered six runs on six hits over seven innings, striking out two.

Bankhead took the loss for Weiss. The hurler allowed two hits and seven runs over two and a third innings, striking out three.

Magallanez led Lockhart Lions Varsity with two hits in two at bats.

Fisher went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Weiss in hits.

March 5: Hyde Park Bests Lockhart Lions Varsity In Close Game

Both teams were strong on the pitcher’s mound on Friday, but Hyde Park was just a little bit stronger at the plate in a victory over Lockhart Lions Varsity on Friday. Nick Ogeda started the game for Lockhart Lions Varsity and recorded 12 outs.

Cox was the winning pitcher for Hyde Park. The pitcher went five and two-thirds innings, allowing one run on one hit and striking out six. McIntyre and Farmer entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

Ogeda took the loss for Lockhart Lions Varsity. The pitcher surrendered two runs on four hits over four innings, walking one.

Ivan Gonzales went 1-for-1 at the plate to lead Lockhart Lions Varsity in hits.

March 5: Lockhart Lions Varsity Victorious Cedar Creek Thanks to First Inning Boost

Lockhart Lions Varsity scored 11 runs in the first on its way to an 18-4 victory over Cedar Creek on Friday. Ernesto Suarez, Gio Roque, RJ Torres, Gavin Gomez, Jacob Whisenant, and Nick Ogeda each drove in runs during the inning.

In the first inning, Lockhart Lions Varsity got their offense started. Suarez drew a walk, scoring one run.

Torres was credited with the victory for Lockhart Lions Varsity. Torres lasted two innings, allowing one hit and four runs while striking out two. Ethan Bryant threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Mason Merritt took the loss for Cedar Creek. The bulldog allowed three runs on zero hits and walked one.

Ogeda went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Lockhart Lions Varsity in hits.

Merritt led Cedar Creek with one hit in one at bats.

March 6: Westlake Runs Away With Early Lead In Victory

Lockhart Lions Varsity watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 10-2 loss to Westlake on Saturday. Westlake scored on a home run by Braden Davis, a double by Luke Mangus, and a double by Frickenson in the first inning.

The Lockhart Lions Varsity struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Westlake, giving up ten runs.

Westlake opened up scoring in the first inning, when Davis homered on a 1-0 count, scoring three runs.

Mangus Nelson was the winning pitcher for Westlake. The hurler went five innings, allowing two runs on four hits, striking out four and walking one.

Jacob Contreras took the loss for Lockhart Lions Varsity. The hurler allowed five hits and six runs over one inning.

Westlake launched two home runs on the day. Davis had a dinger in the first inning. #32 had a long ball in the fifth inning.

Gio Roque, Derek Gannon, Contreras, and Nick Ogeda each collected one hit to lead Lockhart Lions Varsity. Lockhart Lions Varsity was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Roque made the most plays with five.

Westlake collected nine hits. Frickenson and Davis each collected multiple hits for Westlake.

Non-district play:

March 8: Lockhart Lions Varsity Clinches Lead In Fifth Inning To Defeat Bastrop

Lockhart Lions Varsity took the lead late and defeated Bastrop 5-3 on Monday. The game was tied at three with Lockhart Lions Varsity batting in the top of the fifth when Gio Roque singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run.

Lockhart Lions Varsity captured the lead in the second inning. Lockhart Lions Varsity scored one run on a stolen base.

Lockhart Lions Varsity scored three runs in the second inning. The big inning was thanks to by Jackie Edwards Jr., a single by Jacob Contreras, and by RJ Torres.

Ivan Gonzales got the start for Lockhart Lions Varsity. The hurler went six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits and striking out four.

Isaiah Herrin was on the hill for Bastrop. The pitcher went two innings, allowing three runs on one hit and striking out one. Reagan Hibbs and Conrad Pace entered the game as relief, throwing two and two-thirds innings and two and a third innings respectively.

Roque, Rene Delgadillo, and Contreras each collected one hit to lead Lockhart Lions Varsity.

Hibbs went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead Bastrop in hits.
