In a town renowned for its smoked brisket and barbecue traditions, two culinary stand outs are broadening the flavor palette of Lockhart’s historic downtown. Nestled in the Brock Building, just off the courthouse square, Little Trouble and Charlotte’s are bringing contemporary dining to the “Barbecue Capital of Texas” with innovation, style, and heartfelt hospitality.

Downstairs in a former bank vault, Little Trouble has transformed the subterranean space into a moody speakeasy that blends urban sophistication with small-town charm. Exposed brick, leather seating, and dim lighting create an inviting ambiance, while the kitchen, helmed by Head Chef Jamie Nelson, delivers a bold menu of refined American fare.

Under the direction of owner Jayden Williams, Little Trouble has a loyal following. Chef Nelson, who’s been with the concept since day one, brings creativity and consistency to the evolving menu. Diners can expect everything from duck confit and pumpkin ravioli to daily features like Tacos with a Twist and Wednesday night burgers.

Signature cocktails such as the Paloma and Armadillo Sour are served in whimsical mugs, adding to the speakeasy charm. The restaurant also offers takeout and delivery, including fan favorites like steak sliders, dumplings, and the “Little Trouble Burger.”

In 2022, Austin Monthly named Little Trouble the “Best Restaurant Worth a Drive,” a title reinforced by strong online ratings ranging between 4.3 and 4.6 stars. Since acquiring the business in late 2024, Williams has embraced a hands-on approach. It’s not uncommon to see her behind the bar or checking in on guests.

Little Trouble is open weekdays from 5 p.m. to midnight, until 1 a.m. on Saturdays, and Sundays from 3 p.m. to midnight, a schedule that caters to both early diners and late-night patrons.

Just upstairs, Charlotte’s serves as the light-filled counterpart to Little Trouble’s nocturnal vibe. Open Friday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the brunch-centric café is named after the Williams’ daughter and boasts panoramic views of the courthouse square. The décor is breezy and modern, tailored to accommodate everything from weekend brunches to private parties, dances and weddings.

The menu highlights inventive twists on comfort food by their Head Chef and Catering Manager Leo Gomez, including Southwest Eggs Benedict with chorizo hollandaise, Captain Crunch waffles, and fried chicken with bacon-bourbon marmalade. An expanded lunch menu now includes vegetarian options, and the drink program features espresso drinks, mimosa carafes, and hand-crafted cocktails.

Special Event: Pop-Up Dinner with Chef Charlie Wilson

Charlotte’s will host a pop-up dinner with Austin-based Chef Charlie Wilson on Friday, July 12 at 6 p.m. Seating is limited, so guests are encouraged to sign up early for this unique culinary event.

More than just neighbors in the same building, Little Trouble and Charlotte’s share a philosophy: make everything from scratch, make everyone feel welcome, and never lose sight of the community. “We’re here to stay,” says Williams. “We’ll keep the speakeasy feel but make it approachable to everybody.”

Together, the two restaurants represent a new wave of hospitality in Lockhart. While the traditional barbecue spots remain a cornerstone of the town’s identity, Little Trouble and Charlotte’s are proving that the city’s culinary landscape is ripe for reinvention.
