Michael Leland “Mike” Stevenson

Michael Leland “Mike” Stevenson, 77, of Lockhart, Texas passed away on May 1, 2026.
Mike was born on September 6, 1948, in Bryan, Texas. As the son of a military family, he spent his childhood in various places around the world, ultimately graduating from high school in Heidelberg, Germany. Those early experiences shaped his adaptability, curiosity, and lifelong appreciation for people from all walks of life.
Mike proudly served his country in the United States Army. He carried that sense of service and discipline with him throughout his life.
He went on to graduate from Southwest Texas State University and dedicated his career to serving others, most notably spending 26 years at Pegasus working with at-risk youth. Mike had a remarkable ability to connect with young people, offering guidance, perspective, and belief when it was needed most. His impact can be seen in the countless lives he helped redirect and rebuild.
For the past 50 years, Mike called Lockhart, Texas home, where he raised his family and became a familiar and beloved presence in the community. Whether through his work, his music, or simply his larger-than-life personality, he left a lasting impression on those around him.
A lifelong musician, Mike was a founding member of “The Fossils,” a rock and roll band based in Lockhart, Texas. Music was one of his great joys, and he brought energy, humor, and heart to every performance.
Fossil-man Mike will be remembered for his entertaining and humorous personality. He was a natural storyteller—often telling long, animated stories with expressive hands—and was truly the life of the party. He had a gift for entertaining others and making people feel seen, welcomed, and valued.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Joanne; his sons, Anthony Stevenson and his wife Nadia, Nick Stevenson and his wife Becky; and his grandchildren, Davin, Cadence, Aubree, and Eddie. He is also survived by his sister, Dianne Stevenson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thelma and Leland Stevenson.
A celebration of Mike’s life will be held on Saturday, May 16,2026, at 1:00 P.M. at All Generations Church in Lockhart, Texas. A reception will follow immediately at the church. All who own a “Fossils” tee shirt are encouraged to wear them to the service.
Mike’s legacy lives on in the music he played, the stories he told, and the many lives he touched. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
As Mike so loved his precious pup Dash, and was an avid supporter of “Smooches for Pooches,” the family kindly requests that donations be made in Mike’s name to the Lockhart Animal Foundation in lieu of flowers.
