Patsy Ann Spradling

Patsy Ann Spradling, 68, of Austin, died Sunday morning, April 24, 2005.
A beloved mother, she is survived her daughter Vicky Yvonne Spradling of Austin; son, Travis Jay Spradling of Baton Rouge, La.; daughter, Amanda Beth Spradling of Ann Arbor, Mich.; granddaughter Helen Leslie Ross; sons-in-law Tim Kutach and Andy Ross. She is also survived by loving family includi

ng sister Sue Allen; sister Wylene Saunders and her husband Jack; and many nieces and nephews.
Patsy was preceded in death by her infant twin sons; parents Wiley Nichols and Ada Nichols; brother Bob Nichols and former husband Leslie Spradling.
She was diagnosed with lung cancer in 1992, and after surgery lived 10 years before it reoccurred. Despite the difficulties of radiation treatment and chemotherapy, she had many good times and enjoyed life for the last three years. She found a special joy in living to watch her only granddaughter begin to grow up, and we enjoyed Patsy”s extra time with us.
She worked for many years for the Internal Revenue Service, and also helped run the Spradling General Store in Lytton Springs.
She covered local events in Lytton Springs in a newspaper column, and enjoyed creative writing when she returned to school, earning an Associate”s degree from Austin Community College in 1998.
She instilled in her children a love of reading and learning, and gave them the support and freedom to be whatever they wanted to be. She was an avid reader herself, of history and mystery. Cookbooks and food were a special love.
She was generous with people, a seeker of knowledge, and an adventurer with a sense of mischief. One of her favorite things to do was to give away stuffed animals to small children she happened to pass by.
Her second family was a group of friends with whom she met frequently at restaurants to discuss ideas, politics and patriotism. We appreciate the friendship and love they shared with her.
She received excellent treatment from radiation oncologist Dr. Stephen L. Brown, chemotherapy oncologist Dr. David George, and their caring staffs, and the wonderful Intensive Care Unit staff at Seton Northwest. They made possible the happiness and activity of her last three years.
Hospice Austin staff and volunteers helped her through her last months, and provided a special angel, Charlotte Sharrett, who lifted her spirits without fail.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 29 at Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel. Interment followed at Austin Memorial Park.
