Grade you teach and at which school: My name is Ivonne Martinez and I teach 4th grade bilingual at Bluebonnet Elementary School where I teach all subjects.

Hometown: El Paso, Texas

Where did you graduate? I graduated from University of the Incarnate Word with a Bachelor’s in Bilingual Communications

Favorite thing(s) about teaching at Lockhart ISD: 

“My favorite things about working at Lockhart ISD starts with my colleagues at Bluebonnet, from the custodians to our admin team and I feel like I have built strong relationships with everyone at our campus. I also appreciate our bilingual community and our families as well as the friendships that I have been blessed to have gained through working here at Lockhart ISD. I always speak highly of my district and it’s always with pride. I am very blessed to be a part of it.”

How would your friends describe you? My friends would describe me as energetic and optimistic. I try to spread it around as much as possible.  

What values are important to you? The most important values to me are The value that is most important to me is to remember to treat my students as if that was my family member. I try to teach the way I would want my own child to be taught, treated, and motivated. This has allowed me to build respectful and lasting relationships with both my students and their families and it has also helped me maintain a positive and respectful environment in our classroom each year. 

Talents? One of my talents is pumping people up with my speaker. There’s nothing cooler to see in our hallways than teachers and students dancing and smiling when the music comes on. It’s really good energy, especially on Fridays after school. 

Favorite Books: The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane and The Odyssey 

Favorite Music: 90’s hip hop and 80’s rap

Hobbies: My hobbies are cycling, watching my Chiefs play, and collecting cards.

What inspires you? The thing that inspires me is my mom’s laughter is when I call her after school and tell her about my day. I love that my adventures with my students, the things they say, and the things they do bring her joy. I know she looks forward to that every day and I’m blessed to be able to rely on her reminding me how blessed I am to be able to do this job on a daily basis. 

Family: My wife Griselda, my mom Beatriz, my sister Vanessa, my brothers Adrian and Jr., my sisters-in-law Joann and Patty, my mother-in-law Andrea, my nephews Sebastian, Abraham, Edgar (his wife Jenny), Angel, and my nieces Birdie and Camila Milli Willi.
